"Blue Eyes Cryin' in The Rain" - Willie Nelson Portrait
A few years ago, a local television station called me in the middle of the day. They wanted to schedule a live interview with me the next morning. Apparently, Forbes had ranked Nashville as the 3rd most creative city in the country that year. At the time, I only had a few paintings on hand and thought I better have something fresh and new to show as well. Since I paint music and all things “Music City,” and since the segment focused on creativity in Nashville, I decided to paint Willie Nelson. While I was in high school, I worked at the old Opryland USA country music theme park in Nashville. This was right around the time when pop country was starting. But I was never a fan of that genre. I got to listen to a lot of Willie during my time at Opryland. I like him because he’s known for his “outlaw” country music.
Few things represent Music City and its creativity like Willie Nelson. So, that night at 6:30, I started this project. By 5:15 the next morning, I was in the studio of the local television station with Willie, Ray Charles, and a few smaller paintings ready for the interview. By 7:00 a.m., I was at my office for work. It was a whirlwind of a painting gig, but it felt good. I work best under pressure like that anyway. It drives me and fuels my passion somehow. Original painting size is 24 x 36 and full-size (and smaller) giclee on canvas reproductions are available. Contact me for custom sizes.
