Shirley Manson – Garbage Alternative Rock - copy
Check out a more detailed blog I wrote about this painting here. The short of it goes like this: I was waiting tables in college during the mid-90s the first time I heard “Stupid Girl.” I actually thought it was Madonna and felt weird that I liked something by her. For all you locals out there, this was during the peak of the Nashville’s greatest (albeit short-lived) alternative rock station, Thunder 94.
A few weeks later, my sister invited me to an event where she worked at the record label Almo Sounds in Nashville. She gave me a CD in a pink case with the word “garbage” across the top and added, “You’ll probably dig these guys.” The album title sounded a little self-defeating, but who was I to judge. So, I listened and there was that song I heard back at the restaurant! My sister was right. Garbage became my favorite band and I’ve been listening to them ever since.
When the time came to break from painting the country artists, I decided to do something a little more edgy and keep it for myself. So, who better to paint than Shirley Manson from my favorite band?!
Read my blog to see what happened when Shirley saw my painting for herself! This one is mine, but I offer reproductions in two standard sizes (12.5 x 9.5 and 17 x 13). Full-size (36 x 48) options are also available. Contact me for custom sizes.
New from Roy Laws Art: Re-Creations!
So you love a painting, but the original is already home with someone else. What to do? I now offer to recreate the painting for you in the size and even colors you like. I even promise to drink beer and listen to loud music while I'm doing it to accurately match the environment the original was created. You can choose the "recreation" option below or contact me if you'd like something altered.
