I’m friends with the local band Anthony Adams and the Nite Owls. They held an album release party and asked me to live paint an owl while they played. I had never done animal art before so I thought it would be a fun challenge to try my hand at an owl. I also thought the band would play for hours so I was prepped to paint for the night. As it turned out, they were just opening for an even better band. So, I only had one hour to get this owl churned out. But I work well under that kind of pressure.
My first try at animal art turned out great and was even auctioned off that very night! I’ve actually sold several prints of this owl. In fact, a woman who lives directly across from Central Park in New York City commissioned me to paint another one just like it, but much larger (50” x 50”). So, I brought Anthony Adams and the Nite Owls back to my studio to play and I live-painted it all over again while they played. I even streamed it live on YouTube so the client could watch from her NYC apartment. When I sent her the completed owl painting, I also mailed her the band’s newly released LP. Needless to say, she loved it!
New from Roy Laws Art: Re-Creations!
So you love a painting, but the original is already home with someone else. What to do? I now offer to recreate the painting for you in the size and even colors you like. I even promise to drink beer and listen to loud music while I'm doing it to accurately match the environment the original was created. You can choose the "recreation" option below or contact me if you'd like something altered.
